Holy week services
Palm/Passion Sunday Drama, March 29 at 10:00 a.m. - This Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, commemorates the beginning of Holy Week and Jesus’ final entry into Jerusalem. Will you follow Pontius Pilate and his Calvary of soldiers or the itinerant preacher, Jesus of Nazareth and the crowd of peasants who follow him? A special offering for the One Great Hour of Sharing will be received.
Taizé, Service of the Shadows, Maundy Thursday & Holy Communion, April 2 at 6:00 p.m. - Taizé services feature short scripture readings accompanied by simple contemplative, repetitive song/prayers that trace the story of Christ's passion- his betrayal at the Passover meal to the denials and false accusations, to his mockery of a trial. Six candles will be extinguished following each reading, dramatizing the diminishing of Christ’s light and life. We will also celebrate the ritual of Christ's foot washing of the disciples by handwashing, and the Lord's Supper. If you will be participating via livestream, please make sure you have a candle representing the Christ Candle, a piece of bread and cup of juice with you along with a bowl of water and a hand towel. A humble Lenten meal of soup and bread will be hosted by the Fellowship Team Ministry at 5:00 p.m. RSVP required due to space. Call the Church Office at (302) 227-2109.
Taizé Tenebrae - Good Friday - The Service of the Nails, April 3 at 5:00 p.m. - The term "Good" is derived from an obsolete word meaning pious/holy. The Service of the Nails is a series of readings, short meditative songs, silent reflection and prayer designed to help us enter more deeply into the meaning of Good Friday. The drama in this service comes from the actions called at each scripture reading where everyone is invited to take a nail from a basket and approach a life-size wooden cross and pound a spike into the Cross, or by dropping the nail into the tin metal basket. The pounding sound of the spike or the clang of the nail against the metal basket will remind us of our own brokenness as victims and perpetrators of sin, but also of our need for the healing power of God's amazing grace and redemptive love offered through the cross.
Easter Resurrection Day & Holy Communion, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. - On Easter, we glimpse a new landscape — the age to come — and experience a sense of holy awe at the significance of the resurrection that asserts that by grace we are born again into the new humanity of Jesus Christ- a new life for God and for neighbors. In a world yearning for Good News, what a spirit-filled way to rise and shine with family and friends- singing, praying and giving thanks to God for the gifts of hope, peace, joy and love. As we celebrate the Lord’s Supper with common bread and cup, we open ourselves to become the Beloved Community. At Westminster Presbyterian Church -the Little Church by the Sea- of Rehoboth Beach, we know that this is not our table, but it is Christ’s table where all are welcome! A special offering for the One Great Hour of Sharing will be received.
